Now comes Alan McPherson, a certified and passionate golfnut, who’s using his passion for a very noble cause-to raise funds for cancer research in the UK. Alan’s recently retired, 60 years young, plays off a handicap of 10 and is a member of the Glen Golf Club in North Berwick, Scotland. am a member of an outstanding golf club – see glengolfclub.co.uk, which I’ve actually had the pleasure of playing. He’s married to a fellow golfnut who shares his passion for golf and all that it stands for, and together we were half of the Glen GC team that won the Scottish title in the R&A’s Rules of Golf Quiz in 2007. He’s a rules official and referees the odd club event at his club without, in his words, becoming too much of an anorak. He’s off on this admirable cause of playing all of the golf courses in Scotland for Cancer Research UK, and would be very grateful for any donations here to support him.
His website, or blog already has 86 golf course reviews, a fair start on the 625 courses in Scotland he intends to play. I’ve played a good number of the courses he’s reviewed so far, and believe he’s spot on in his course evaluations. In addition to supporting a good course, this is a great resource for anyone planning a first trip, or follow-on trip to Scotland, and would recommend you take a look. My feeling is that if you find something of benefit from Alan’s course reviews, maybe a course you have to play after because of Alan’s work, then support his cause! Cheers!
