TPC Deere Run

TPC Deere Run

Play where the pros play the annual Deere Classic

Play where the Pros play, the TPC Deere Run is the course where they hold the Tour’s John Deere classic, and was designed by Illinois native D.A. Weibring. The course can play long from the professional tees at 7,258 yards, 145 slope, and has 4 other sets of shorter tees. First class facility, pristine conditioning, and extremely challenging, not for the higher handicapper. The course is in the Quad Cities, on the east side of Moline off Rt 84. Great value for the quality of the course and facilities, and probably has to be the cheapest PGA Tour course you can play. The course is laid out parkland style along the Rock River, with trees and water in play constantly, and it’s extremely well bunkered. Likely you won’t shoot your best round here, but you will know you’ve been challenged.

It’s always in America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses by Golf Digest and one of the best public courses in the state by Golfweek.  There’s some fun risk/reward type holes like the short par 4, 14th, named  named John Deere. The hole is drivable because it plays downhill, but coming up short of the small, elevated green leaves a player with a blind shot from the U.S. version of the “Valley of Sin,” a tightly mowed chipping area. Go long and the ball can careen down a 60-foot bluff. There’s a more challenging par four, the 4th which is 450 yards with a huge tree in the middle of the fairway, which always causes me problems. From 15 on, it’s got the stadium feel to it for the galleries watching tournaments here, and is as good a set of finishing holes you’ll find anywhere.

We play the course a couple of times a year, driving over from Central Illinois, it’s always in great shape, worth the drive, and relatively inexpensive for the quality of the layout and conditions, and to play a PGA Tour venue.

Thanks Biff for the review, if you’ve played TPC John Deere, please give it a shout on our comments section below, Cheers!
