Haig Point is a private golf club and community off the South Carolina coast between Hilton Head and Savannah, and is only accessible by ferry on Calibogue Sound. Our pal and colleague John Garrity, who’s been writing for Sports Illustrated for over 30 years, has established his Top 50 golf courses in the world over the years, and has recently moved Haig Point to the #50 position, after being in the low 200′s for years, at least from John’s perspective I would add. Seems the last time he played there in 2002, he tore a rotator cuff coming off the 15th green, and deducted 100′s of points from its ratings. After a recent renovation by Rees Jones, it’s made it to his top 50 list, and he’s published his review of Haig Point here.
Forelinksters is about the best public golf courses, and while the Haig Point Golf Club isn’t generally open to the public, they do off a “discovery packages” with golf and accommodations, if you’re interested experiencing Haig Point without the expense of buying a home!
